Portmeirion Porcelain Dinnerware & Bakeware
The Pormeirion Company was established by Susan Williams-Ellis and Evan Cooper-Willis in 1960. Ms. Williams-Ellis purchased a small pottery decorating company in Stoke-on-Trent called A.E.Gray Ltd. that she had worked with for several years. In 1961, the couple purchased a small pottery manufacturing company called Kirkham's Ltd. This allowed Susan to begin designing the shape of the pottery instead of only decorating the already made pottery.
In the 1970's Ms. Williams-Ellis discovered a nineteenth century publication of antique botanical illustrations. These were adapted into the Portmeirion Botanic Garden Collection. First introduced in 1972, this delightful collection features a lovely mixture of floral motifs with a signature leaf border. This collection grew to become one of the world's top selling tableware lines. Extensions to this collection include Botanic Garden Terrace, Botanic Roses, Exotic Botanic Garden and Holly Cardinal. After 30 years the Portmeirion Botanic Garden collection still accounts for over one-half of the company's production. Pomona has been a strong Portmeirion collection since its introduction in 1982. Named for the Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona features bold splashes of colorful fruits from historical illustrations with a classic leaf border. The Portmeirion Sophie Conran collection has won the ELLE Decoration award for Best in Kitchens. This classic oven to tabletop collection is perfect for modern day living. The Portmeirion design department continues to create new and innovative product ranges under the watchful eye of Susan Williams-Ellis.
